The Amarone della Valpolicella Italy Report 2023

In the final instalment of Club Oenologique’s Italy Report 2023 Sarah Heller MW presents her selection of 100 Amarone della Valpolicella

Our Amarone Gianni Pavesi 2017 is awarded with 95 points:

It opens with a hint of cherry stone and pretty alpine strawberry fruit that plays hide-and-seek with vetiver, leather and dried orange peel. Sheer and bright with an acidic lift, the mid-palate’s perfectly preserved fruit is a testament to carefully managed, natural appassimento over a fairly brisk 90 days. This leaves a sense of ripeness without sweetness. The finish is very dry at 2g/litre of residual sugar. Cut crystal tannins frame the finish.
